Intensive Outpatient Program VS Outpatient Program

Services for the treatment of substance abuse & other psychiatric disorders can be confusing, especially for prospective clients and family members who are all in a time of need and trying to figure out what the right treatment services might be.

CDS offers several treatment options and either program will allow you to participate in treatment while maintaining your commitment to other life obligations including work, school or caring for family members or children.

INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM (IOP)

Clients can participate fully without having to give up entire days or evenings as they would if they were admitted into an inpatient facility.

Intensive Outpatient Programs provide education, structure and support for clients as they develop and utilize newly learned skills to maintain sobriety,  stability, and an enhanced quality of life for themselves and their loved ones.

For example, IOP may require attendance in several hours of treatment three or four times weekly. Your IOP sessions can be scheduled during the day or evening to help you and your family balance treatment and recovery with other life commitments.

OUTPATIENT PROGRAM (OP)

Outpatient Programs require clients to attend sessions at least two times a week. Outpatient programs are typically considered a "step-down" level of care that is very helpful to clients after completion of an Intensive Outpatient Program.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Components of both programs may include individual therapy sessions, family counseling sessions, and group therapy sessions (groups therapy sessions are limited to only 4 clients) and random alcohol/drug testing. In addition to family counseling sessions we offer educational sessions so that the clients' loved ones will have a better understanding of addictive disorders and the recovery process.

MISCONCEPTIONS & MYTHS

Despite misconceptions and wide spread myths, a person struggling with a substance use disorder, often referred to as an addiction, isn't an immoral or bad person.

Substance use disorders are chronic, progressively worsening brain disorders that result in poor decision making that usually result in "bad behaviors."

SUBSTANCE USE & PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS WORSE OVER TIME

If left untreated or ineffectively treated, substance use and/or psychiatric disorders will negatively impact every aspect of life - mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Then the individual struggling with the disorder, and sometimes the family, will begin to experience social, economic, medical, psychological, occupational and legal problems.

EARLY WARNING SIGNS

Early warning signs and symptoms of substance use or psychiatric problems are usually present, but unfortunately, a serious crisis will develop before a person and/or family member will seek help.

HOW TO BEGIN SEEKING HELP

If you or someone you love is struggling problems related to alcohol and/or other drug use, the best way to begin is by scheduling a substance abuse evaluation which will be administered by a master's level, state licensed clinical social worker. The social worker should also hold a substance abuse professional credential along with several years of experience treating addictive disorders.

AN EVALUATION IS NECESSARY

An effective evaluation will determine the presence and severity of a substance use disorder. This evaluation will also identify and assess the signs and symptoms of a co-occurring mental health problem such as anxiety, PTSD, depression, bi-polar disorder, or unresolved abuse issues that may be present.

It is important to know that the signs and symptoms of mood disorders (depression, anxiety, panic, etc.) and even psychotic symptoms can be the result of an untreated substance use disorder, including withdrawal. So it is not uncommon for the signs and symptoms of a psychiatric disorder to dissipate after the client becomes clean and sober.

EFFECTIVE TREATMENT & RECOVERY

Effective treatment and developing a recovery support system will offer the client and family a wonderful new way of life.
