I have provided clinical services for adult and adolescent populations for over 25 years and I have extensive experience working at all levels of patient care. Levels of care include state inpatient treatment facilities, private psychiatric hospital based inpatient, outpatient and intensive outpatient settings, long-term residential treatment settings and free-standing intensive outpatient programs and outpatient programs.
I also opened a state licensed outpatient substance abuse treatment facility, Chemical Dependency Services (CDS) which included an adult long-term, adult, 30-bed transitional living facility.
My experience includes providing clinical services for clients with addictive disorders and psychiatric disorders. I hold separate professional licenses in both areas of clinical practice; one as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and the other as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC). I am also a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS).

THE ADOLESCENT - AN INTERESTING QUOTE
“They now seem to love luxury, they have bad manners and contempt for authority, they show disrespect for adults and spend their time hanging around places gossiping with one another. They are ready to contradict their parents, monopolize the conversation and company, eat gluttonously and tyrannize their teachers .” Socrates - 400 B.C.
The “troubled teen years” are as normal as the “terrible twos.”
The years from the age of thirteen through nineteen are highly charged with physical, emotional, cognitive, and social changes that might be extremely difficult for both teens and their parents to navigate.
Teenagers will experience significant cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes during their teen years; some adapt to changes with minimal problems and some will have a difficult time adjusting to some of those normal developmental changes.
Clinical approaches that work for adults are largely ineffective for adolescents.
The therapist who can effectively counsel or treat an adolescent client must be one who is genuinely non-judgmental, open minded, and most importantly the therapist must be effective in building rapport and earning the trust of an adolescent or young adult during the first counseling session. So it is crucial to find a therapist who understands those challenges, has specialized training, and has extensive experience providing clinical services for adolescent and young adult populations.

All clients seek therapy for very personal and individualized reasons, in general, people seek professional help in solving personal or interpersonal problems. Usually an undesirable situation that is negatively impacting their quality of life and/or the lives of those they love.
The counseling process, or individual psychotherapy, allows you to confidentially and safely explore your feelings, beliefs, and behavior, to work through hurtful or frightening memories, to identify aspects of your life that you would like to change, or to better understand yourself or others. And these are only a generalized 'short list' of reasons you may be considering counseling.
The frequency and duration of therapy depends on your treatment plan goals and on the pace at which you will choose to work toward them.
There are no set lengths of time it takes to accomplish specific goals - again, those are variables that you control based on the pace at which you are most comfortable with in terms of addressing specific cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes.
Some goals are easily resolved with short-term therapy while other goals may address more complex concerns or chronic situations so you may be facing a longer-term commitment in order to achieve goal resolution.

Some clients are more comfortable participating in individual therapy sessions only and others enjoy the added benefit of a small group setting.
For those interested in group therapy, or for those concerned about being placed in a large group setting - all group therapy sessions are limited to no more than 4 clients. Additionally, any client who breaches the confidentiality agreement policy is subject to immediate discharge.
We will make every effort to provide individual sessions instead of group sessions, especially for professionals or others who are concerned about the nature of their therapy and concerns for remaining anonymous.
Based on individual circumstances, some clients may be required to participate in a group therapy process.
